About the event
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
This workshop explores the unique challenges and opportunities of placing the human figure within the landscape. Through demonstration, discussion, and guided practice, students will learn how to integrate figure and environment in a way that feels natural, intentional, and visually cohesive.
Liz Harris will lead instruction on the figure—covering gesture, proportion, movement, color and value, and the role of the figure in creating narrative and focus—while Jane Anne will provide guidance on landscape structure, value relationships, color and compositional support. Together, instruction will emphasize how scale, placement, and design choices strengthen the connection between figure and setting.
Students will work from life and reference, focusing on small studies that encourage experimentation and problem-solving without the pressure of a finished piece. Individual feedback will be offered throughout the workshop.
Open to all levels. This workshop is ideal for artists interested in deepening their understanding of figurative work in an outdoor or environmental context.
